COBI 2593 Flakpanzer Wirbelwind + COBI 2592 Panzer IV (Speed Build Review)

Since both models are very similar, I built them in one go. After all, the Flakpanzer Wirbelwind is based on the Panzer IV and has only minimal differences in the hull.

Construction

The lower part of the hull is almost identical on both, so I only had to build it once in the video and was able to show the slight differences. Both start with a layer of bricks and plates laid to the side, which ensure a completely stud-free base. Plates are then placed on top of a few studs. After that, the construction of the middle section and the engine continues. While you can see some differences in the middle, the rear with the engine is completely identical again.

The rear cover is also almost identical. The Panzer 4, however, has a printed cross beam, while the Wirbelwind is practically naked. Clearer differences can be seen in the turret mounts. Here the Wirbelwind has additional cross beams onto which the freely rotating turret is placed. The Panzer 4 is completely open so that the basket on the turret also has enough space. The tracks are identical on both and run excellently. It can even be pushed on smooth surfaces without any pressure. The hull of the Panzer 4 is now finished. The Wirbelwind is camouflaged a little and has numerous leaves all around it.

The turret of the Panzer 4 is built quite quickly. The basket is also relatively easy to build and is more stable than the baskets of the new Tiger. The turret of the Wirbelwind is a bit more complex and is attached using numerous hinges. This gives it the perfect shape, but there is no room left for a figure.

Conclusion:

Both models look great. But you have to be a real collector to want to put up with the largely identical construction. Both are quite expensive. However, you shouldn’t forget the number of parts. The old models only cost around 50 EUR, but they only had around 500-800 parts. The new models rarely have fewer than 1000 parts and have far more details.
