Construction
The new IS-3 has a complete interior and is therefore naturally built with a large empty space. After the front area has been set up, the engine is built. The next big difference from the predecessor is the mount for the turret. This is a large hole into which the turret and its attachments can be placed. Part of the upper hull is now tiled. The lower part of the hull with the rollers looks wrong at first glance. There is no symmetry here. The rollers are installed offset.
The large tracks of the IS-3 run excellently and smoothly. At least when you push the tank forwards. When you go backwards, they are constantly on the hook. This is due to a flat tile on the lower side. This area should have been fixed differently or the tiles should have been placed along the full length. The front uses some nice construction techniques and thus gets its tapered shape. Next up is the turret. This differs significantly from its predecessor. It is not just the shape that has changed. There are also additional attachments on the underside. These are not as complex as on the Tiger, but still make the model a bit more authentic.
Conclusion:
The new IS-3 is an all-round successful model and a beautiful piece of military history in the display case or on the shelf. However, the official price of EUR 95 is very high for 1170 components.
